NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's finance minister on Thursday asked all banks, financial institutions and insurance firms to look into their exposures to firms named by federal investigators in a loans bribery scandal.
A ministry statement quoted Pranab Mukherjee as calling on regulatory and other institutions to further improve safeguards.
Eight officials of banks and financial firms were arrested on Wednesday by federal investigators for taking bribes to facilitate large corporate loans. Investigators have not said who were the beneficiaries of those loans.
