LIC chairman: looking into need to tighten controls

Thursday November 25, 12:10 PM Reuters

MUMBAI (Reuters) - State-run Life Insurance Corp of India is looking into the need to tighten internal operational systems, its chairman told CNBC-TV18 on Thursday, a day after its housing unit chief was arrested on charges of accepting bribes.

LIC is planning to conduct an internal inquiry into the allegations and a board meeting for LIC Housing Finance as soon as possible to discuss the development, T.S. Vijayan told the Indian television channel.

LIC is considering two internal executives for the top job at the housing finance unit.

The Delhi-based Central Bureau of Investigation said on Wedneday it had arrested eight officials from banks and financial firms on charges of receiving bribes valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
